ImagiLearning has been doing some very interesting work with regard to Virtual Environments in eLearning. The company has been working towards a concept which they refer to as TranceFormational Learning (TL). They admit that they have struggled for the past several months trying to figure out the best way to introduce TL.

The TL concept believes that learning is best created through ‘experience’ and that most book materials are not all that ‘experiential’. It occurred to John Jamison President and CEO of ImagiLearning that the best approach for training may be a blended approach. In the blended TL approach a ‘book’ will set the stage with content and background that is coupled with a highly immersive and engaging online adventure game that is a 3D virtual environment. This will be an ‘introduction to TL by immersion according to John. He is also in the process of authoring a book on the topic of TL. His first interactive game will be in the form of an individualized ‘adventure’ in which the player uses the concepts of TL from the book to proceed through the adventure simulation thereby learning more in the process.
James Cornelius, curator of the Lincoln Collection in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is also embracing Johns ideas. John is developing a virtual walk through Lincoln’s home and neighborhood which also will re-create the funeral procession route through Springfield for online visitors.
