Advanced Distributed Learning - The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (OUSD P&R) was tasked with leading a collaborative effort to harness the power of information technologies to modernize structured learning. Through the sponsorship of the OUSD P&R, the creation of the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative was formed as a developer and implementer of learning technologies across the Department of Defense (DoD).

Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) -  is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. It defines communications between client side content and a host system called the run-time environment.
