What is E-learning
The
definition of e-learning can be best summarized as any technology that allows teachers and students who are physically separated to interact in an instructional situation. Historically this encompassed correspondence courses and other paper-based approaches. Today it is in the form of electronic transmissions such as Internet, satellite, cable, phone lines etc.
E-learning or distance learning as it is sometimes referred, allows any learning institution, licensing body, corporation, or entity to inexpensively bring both educators and educational material together with students regardless of location or geography. It allows for the sharing of various forms of training materials such as content, exams, file exchange, survey forms while also tracking student progress and transcript history.
E-learning opens the door for people to study at their own pace but most importantly, it allows them to study in a way that best suits their needs and time constraints. It removes the boundaries and limits of location while saving both time and travel expense. It creates unified training standards so that all students can receive the same level and unified standard of instruction. It makes learning
affordable to those that would other wise be left out due to
financial constraints. Lastly e-learning allows for the free exchange of ideas and the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next.

The e-learning environment provides unlimited variation in delivering training materials. It allows the instructor to fine tune material so as to best fit the training subject matter and the target audiance. . People will progress and learn at their own pace so the learning environment should be structured so as to best
meet the need of the material that is being presented. This means that an e-learning environment should be a blended of e-learning technologies that form a complete solution to present the material properly.
